THE CLEANUP NOTEBOOK
Plan the cleanup alongside the renovation.
Before the first tool comes out
Identify the rooms, materials, and phases involved. Set aside reusable fixtures and donate suitable items before demolition. Arrange a disposal plan for suspected hazardous materials and select a dumpster placement that preserves access to the home.
During removal and installation
Keep a clear walking route and move approved debris to the container regularly. Place sharp materials carefully and use appropriate protective equipment. Do not put chemicals, liquid paint, or unidentified older materials into the general waste load.
Manage packaging and weight
Break down cardboard where permitted and avoid trapping large empty spaces between bulky items. Keep dense debris within agreed limits. Do not climb into an unstable load or use unsafe methods to compress it.
At the end of the job
Inspect the work area for nails, scraps, and loose material. Keep the dumpster below its rim and remove obstacles from the collection route. Confirm pickup and retain the rental details in case disposal questions arise later.
This guide is general information. Accepted materials, weight limits, permits, and rental terms must be checked for your particular project and location.
