THE CLEANUP NOTEBOOK
Shingles add weight faster than you think.
Describe the tear-off accurately
Note the roof area, roofing type, and number of existing layers. Mention decking replacement or other wood debris. These details are more useful than choosing a container based only on the visible size of the roof.
Confirm the weight allowance
Roofing debris is dense. Ask for the permitted load and any material-specific requirements before the crew begins. Never assume unused container space means more shingles can safely be added.
Coordinate container placement
Review placement with the roofer and delivery provider. Keep access for ladders, materials, and workers without blocking public paths. Use a safe debris-handling method and protect people, vehicles, and property from falling waste.
Check the load before collection
Keep debris below the rim and remove prohibited materials such as liquid coatings or chemicals. Tell the provider if the project scope changed. Ensure the truck can reach the container after roofing equipment and delivery materials are moved.
This guide is general information. Accepted materials, weight limits, permits, and rental terms must be checked for your particular project and location.
